The Access Foundation are pleased to announce that they have awarded a £5,000 grant to United Way Romania, to facilitate their ‘Learn to Succeed’ program which keeps children in school.
In Romania only a third of vulnerable children graduate primary school, if parents struggle with everyday life often children’s education does not come as a priority. Without real opportunities and constant access to education, many of these children are at risk of becoming adults with economical difficulties, unable to support their families.
United Way takes a holistic approach to developing educational capacity and belives education is more than just a classroom or a teacher, in order for young people to receive a quality education, it takes the focus and resources of the entire community to create learning-rich environments.
United Way Romania aims to improve lives through education, financial support, and health programs. They strive to develop strong, supportive communities, where quality education leads to a stable job with sufficient income to support a family.

United Way Romania’s programs annually support over 11,500 children, young people, and the elderly in highly vulnerable situations.
The £5,000 grant from the Access Foundation will support their ‘Learn to Succeed’ program which has an integrated approach to help parents, teachers, and volunteers come together to support each child’s needs.
Thanks to the ‘Learn to Succeed’ Program, vulnerable children will receive:
- Personalised assistance and educational support in day centres and after-school programs
- Homework support
- Warm meals
- School supplies and educational materials
Additionally, families will be supported with information, parenting education, and counselling. Whilst teachers will receive professional training to develop their abilities to work with vulnerable children.
As a result of the grant and the life-changing work of United Way Romania, 90% of the children involved will improve school attendance and maintain or improve their school results. Moreover, 100% of them will continue their education, being enrolled in the next school year.
