The Access Foundation and Media Savvy drive positive change with new digital skills projects
The Access Foundation has awarded a £38,500 grant to Media Savvy to facilitate a digital skills program for the digitally excluded.
Media Savvy was established in 2010 and is based in Sunderland. They aim to serve some of the ‘hardest-to-reach’ groups in our community, including individuals suffering with their mental health, ex-offenders, individuals with a learning disability and/or autism and those who are long-term unemployed.
Media Savvy promotes education, creativity, and employability skills within these marginalised communities. The team strives to empower individuals, using innovative programmes such as digital arts, media, ICT and well-being courses to unite and empower the community.

The £38,500 grant will fund Media Savvy’s project to teach digital skills – helping to bridge the digital divide and equip people with the tools they need to reach their potential. Weekly sessions will give participants the opportunity to:
- Develop digital literacy
- Access online services
- Feel included in the community
- Be empowered by technology
This project will increase employability and the number of support services available to participants. Individuals will feel more able to take control of their futures and become active participants in the digital world.
