Access Foundation Supports North Tyneside Disability Forum’s Digital Inclusion Project
The Access Foundation is delighted to award a grant to North Tyneside Disability Forum Ltd (NTDF). NTDF work with people disadvantaged by disability, ill health or vulnerability. Their mission is to provide opportunity, choice, and the tools for individuals to take control of their own futures. This aligns closely with our own commitment to bridge the digital divide.
Our funding will support NTDF’s new Digital Inclusion Training Programme. This is a project designed to increase digital skills, reduce digital exclusion, and improve employability outcomes for disabled young adults and adults. Over the coming year, participants will take part in 10-week structured digital training sessions. The project includes access to high‑quality learning materials, Wi‑Fi and more. This ensures every participant can learn with confidence.
Everyday tasks, from applying for a bus pass to accessing healthcare, require digital skills and equipment. For people without the tools or confidence to participate, this creates significant barriers to participation. NTDF’s programme will help remove these obstacles. Participants will learn life and work skills and be able to engage more fully in digital life.
Dr Bob Dennis, Chair of NTDF, shared what the grant means to the organisation:
“For some people IT and IT equipment is liberating – for others, it is overwhelming. The increased use of it can prove discriminatory when ordinary people don’t have access to hardware and software that enables them to participate equally. The everyday need to scan codes or visit portals is a massive barrier to many. This support helps NTDF engage our demographic with 21st‑century digital life, reducing exclusion and increasing confidence.”
