Intergenerational music making to bridge the digital divide
We are providing a grant for the innovative project: Talking Generations Digital: Bridging the Divide.
At the Access Foundation, we believe technology should be a gateway to connection, opportunity, and independence. Intergenerational Music Making’s mission aligns with our vision. As a national organisation, they use music, creativity, and digital innovation to connect generations and strengthen communities. Their purposeful focus on reducing inequality and isolation represents the kind of community‑centred impact we are committed to supporting.
Talking Generations Digital brings older adults and young people together through a blend of digital learning, creativity, and storytelling. Through Digital Storytelling Labs and an Intergenerational Digital Buddy system, participants will build confidence with technology while co‑creating digital stories. For example, this could be as video or podcast. An accessible digital hub will offer ongoing resources, ensuring learning continues beyond the project’s duration.
Charlotte Miller, Founder and Director of Intergenerational Music Making, says:
This grant enables us to address digital exclusion in a way that is creative, human, and genuinely transformative.
The project will directly benefit 250 older adults and 100 young people. It prioritises those with limited digital access or facing social isolation. By fostering meaningful intergenerational relationships, the programme both improves digital skills and strengthens community relationships.
We are particularly inspired by the project’s long-term vision. By embedding toolkits, resources, and training within libraries and community spaces, the initiative creates a sustainable legacy that local communities can build on.
