For those without digital skills, everyday tasks like applying for benefits or searching for work, can feel impossible
Our world is increasingly digital-first. Many people feel left behind. We have awarded a £10,100 Digital Divide grant to Blacon Beacon to support people in one of
Chester’s most deprived communities. Blacon Beacon is already a trusted community hub for residents.
This grant allows Blacon Beacon to continue delivering their digital support sessions throughout 2026. It also provides essential computer equipment for those who need it most. Their Digital Mentor provides patient, one-to-one support, helping residents navigate digital challenges at their own pace. This personalised support helps people feel more independent and in control of their lives.
As a result, more local people will be able to access vital online services. It helps them stay connected with their family and friends, and take important steps towards greater confidence and inclusion.
Lesley Smith, manager of Blacon Beacon says, “We know so many people who really just can’t fill in these forms. People have been making phone calls, but now find that phone access no longer available: everything is now online. Some people are really struggling. Your grant is making a massive difference to many, many residents of Blacon and we thank you so much for that.”
