The Access Foundation has awarded £25,900 to Friends of Hereward College to improve digital access for students in Coventry over the next 12 months — funding new devices, software, training and ongoing tech support. (Please note: the grant does not fund the proposed digital hub element.)

Friends of Hereward College is a volunteer-led charity that supports learners at Hereward College. Its purpose is simple: increase student involvement, reinvest funds into projects that make a difference, and enhance wellbeing — especially as the cost of living continues to put pressure on disabled students and their families.

The charity’s vision is for every student to have the tools and confidence to learn, connect and take part in college life. Working closely with staff and students, it backs practical initiatives like Business in Action, Hospitality and Street Markets, while giving young people a voice in how funds are used.

The grant will fund four strands of activity:

· New technology: laptops, tablets and assistive tech tailored to individual needs.

· Software licences: essential educational, creative and communication tools.

· Digital skills training: safe internet use, online research, coding and digital communication.

· Technical support: set-up, maintenance and helpdesk support so equipment stays reliable.

This support will help up to 1,000 students build digital confidence, take part more fully in lessons, and stay connected with friends, family and future employers. For

many, having the right device and a patient person to show them how to use it can be the difference between sitting out and truly joining in.

Looking ahead, this funding will open doors — helping students gain independence, improve their learning and grow the skills that lead to brighter futures.
