The Access Foundation supports Young Lives vs Cancer’s Glasgow Home from Home

The Access Foundation has awarded £20,000 to Young Lives vs Cancer to redecorate Marion’s House, its Glasgow Home from Home, which provides free accommodation for families with children undergoing cancer treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children.

Young Lives vs Cancer is the UK’s leading charity for children and young people with cancer, offering vital emotional, practical, and financial support. Their Homes from Home are a lifeline for families forced to travel long distances for specialist treatment, offering a safe, supportive space close to hospital, free of charge.

Marion’s House, opened in 2016, has supported hundreds of families, offering 153 family stays in the last year alone. With eight years of constant use, the property is now showing its age and is in urgent need of redecoration to keep it welcoming, safe, and comfortable for families.

The Foundation’s grant will fund the full redecoration of the property’s walls, with scope to extend to woodwork and external cladding if possible. This essential work will ensure that families continue to have a home-like space to return to after long and difficult hospital days.

For parents and children facing the uncertainty of cancer treatment, Marion’s House provides more than just accommodation – it offers comfort, dignity, and a community of others who truly understand.

As one parent shared: “Marion’s House was lovely, it took a lot of pressure off. Whenever I could get out of hospital at least I had somewhere to go that was safe and clean, and everyone in the house understood.”

By helping to maintain Marion’s House, this grant will ensure that families continue to find comfort and strength during the most challenging times.
