World Impact
Our second funding pillar enables The Access Foundation to provide complementary funding support to the charities chosen by each of The Access Group regional offices as their charity of the year.
While the fundraising activities of the people of Access provide general financial support to their chosen charities, The Access Foundation can add a grant to fund a specific project with measurable outcomes for their beneficiaries.
Europe
In Europe as part of its inaugural year, The Access Foundation was able to award grants to three charities – NDCS (National Deaf Children’s Society), Bipolar and Irish Cancer Society who were charities for last year and this year respectively.
UK - National Deaf Children’s Society
NDCS was provided with £50,022 to fund the expansion of their Family Sign Language (FSL) training programme, providing whole families with practical skills for communication.
UK - Bipolar
Bipolar was awarded £50,000 to help fund several digital initiatives to raise awareness and bring down diagnosis times for those living with bipolar. This initiative has already achieved a reach of over 288,000 people through a variety of media channels.
Irish Cancer Society
In Ireland, The Access Foundation provided a grant of £50,000 to the Irish Cancer Society to fund a post-Covid hybrid conference (with both in-person and online elements) reaching over 1,000 participants. The conference, titled ‘Living Well With and Beyond Cancer’ provided cancer patients and survivors with advice, information and the ability to share experiences with others.
APAC
In the APAC region charities of the year were chosen for the very first time by Access. The Access Foundation was delighted to be able to offer grants in this first year to charities in Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
Malaysia - National Cancer Society of Malaysia
In Malaysia, The Access Foundation provided a grant of £15,000 to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia for a grant to support and sustain the ‘Home of Hope’ programme, which has been able to offer free accommodation to 27 cancer patients and their care givers from all over Malaysia while they undergo treatment at the Hospital of Kuala Lumpur. In total 913 nights of accommodation have been funded throughout 2022, as well as additional services such as counselling for patients and family members, transportation to and from the hospital, laundry services and nutritional support and advice.
Australia - Variety Australia
In Australia, The Access Foundation was able to award a grant of £50,000 to a regional group of branches of the charity Variety Australia. The equipment funded by The Access Foundation will improve the quality of life, self-esteem, and independence of up to 745 children.
New Zealand - Muscular Dystrophy Association
In New Zealand, The Access Foundation was able to award a grant of £16,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to fund the publication of a new digital version of the charity’s InTouch magazine, which was rated the second most valuable service the MDA offer their members in a recent survey. The objectives of the publication are to reduce isolation and build a sense of community among members, share new and better ways, tools, and products to improve quality of life, keep members up to date with research and government advice and encourage sign-ups to the neuromuscular register. The magazine is emailed to over 3,400 people including professionals in the health and disability sector.
